Let’s get ready for flu season 2011-12

A notice popped up in the MyYCP portal a few days ago, with a reminder of flu shots for York College students, staff, and faculty. I know I’m getting mine, and I know you will get yours.  From the Portal announcement:

Flu vaccines will be given at Health Services on the following dates:

Wednesday, October 5th from 8:30am till 4:30pm  and   Thursday, October 6th from 4:00pm till 7:00pm

We are offering this vaccine at a reduced cost:   Students $10;  Faculty, Staff, Administrators $15

This is as good a place as any to extol the virtues of immunization, and I have been no stranger with this topic on the BIO230 blog over the past year.  The map at right is the one viewable at the Centers for Disease Control’s influenza surveillance website, and indicates the number of cases at the end of May 21, 2011 on a state by state basis. That date represented the end of the 2010-11 flu season.  This year’s flu season will officially begin in early October, and we can expect weekly updates on influenza cases at the CDC website imminently.  Check back here for weekly updates on the upcoming pandemic!!!
